Help me help vulnerable communities without access to water, and sanitation facilities in Nigeria

Hi all,

I wanted to do something good and make the world a better place. When I found out that in Nigeria, sadly it is estimated that over 60 million people do not have access to clean water, over 80 million do not have access to basic sanitation and an alarming 167 million are not able to access basic hand washing facilities, I knew I had to help.

That's why I created a fundraiser to support the U-VOL Foundation's Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Project that will specifically improve the health and well-being of an estimated 10,000 people within various identified vulnerable communities in Nigeria that currently have zero access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities. U-VOL will achieve their mission by:

1. Increasing access to sustainable safe water sources through solar powered boreholes and/or hand pump boreholes with taps dependent on feasibility and geophysical studies.

2. Improvement of sanitation and hygiene practices of vulnerable communities through the building of hygienic toileting facilities

3. Community empowerment and capacity building through health education, training and skill development.

U-VOL's Project WASH will significantly reduce the prevalence of waterborne and water-related diseases and mortality rates for 10,000 people within the targeted vulnerable communities. In addition to providing sustainable sources of clean water, Project WASH will promote good health and well-being, elimination of open defecation and education and community development. No longer burdened by preventable disease, young children and girls that are disproportionately affected by this issue will begin to shape their futures and transform their own communities.—and you can be a part of it.
